Mental Health Services at Dawson Place are provided by the Child Advocacy Program of Compass Health. Compass Health is a partner of Dawson Place and provides many of its services on-site. CAP counseling services include initial assessments, on-going services, and groups for victims and their families. CAP provides counseling for children and adolescents, ages 0-22, who have recently disclosed sexual abuse, or when there is a concern that they may have been abused. In addition, the program maintains a list of therapists who have appropriate training and who provide counseling services in the community to these children and their families.
Counseling services are available to child victims, their non-offending caregivers, and families regardless of their ability to pay. The CAP program is funded through grants and community donations that allow flexibility in how services are provided so therapeutic services can be tailored to meet the needs of each family. Compass serves clients who have medical coupons from the State Department of Social and Health Services, who are eligible to receive payments from the Crime Victims Compensation Fund, and those who pay personally or have private insurance.
The CAP professional counseling staff at Dawson Place consists of master’s level counselors, several of whom are Licensed Mental Health Counselors and state certified as Children’s Mental Health Specialists. The staff also includes master’s level interns who have been specifically trained to provide individual, family, and group counseling for child victims of sexual abuse and their families.
