Children are seen by professionals who are specifically trained to provide sexual assault exams of children.  The medical and nursing staff of Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse includes two registered nurses, two board certified nurse practitioners, a medical assistant, and a team of sexual assault and forensic nurse examiners.  The center coordinates the SANE and forensic nurse examiner team, providing trained nurses in all five Emergency Departments located in Snohomish County for individuals who are seeking treatment for sexual assault and child physical abuse at those locations.  A registered nurse and nurse practitioner are on call at all times.
The medical examination room at Dawson Place is a warm, friendly setting.  Children are given as much control over the situation as is reasonably possible, and children are never forced to have an exam.
